WALK WITH ME
What is my calling?
It’s a question many of us ask. It says in Mark 3:14 as Jesus calls his disciples: "He appointed twelve that they might be with him . . ." Before we are called to do, we are called to be. Cultivating a relationship with Jesus is our number one calling.
As we explore the life of Jesus through this devotional we will walk the journey with him, uncover how he lived, how he interacted with those around him, how he led, how he included, and how he rested.
So how can I walk with Jesus? How can I live a life that is a journey of discovering more of him in my life?
First, we just need to take the first step. James 4:8 says "come close to God and he will come close to you." Simply put, if we take a step towards Jesus, he will take a step towards us. If you have ever felt distant from God, the best thing that you can do is choose to draw closer. What can that look like? Today, that could be as easy as talking to God with a simple prayer, asking for wisdom, honoring or thanking him. Whatever we do, we can choose to take the first step.
Second, we need to do life with Jesus. Romans 12:1 urges us to offer ourselves as a "living sacrifice" to God. God is interested in the direction of your life, the relationships you fill your life with, and the thoughts that consume your mind. Don’t just confine God to Sundays alone, but include him in every part your life. Like any relationship, we get closer when we spend time with one another. When we include God in our every day, we are doing life with Him.
Third, we need to embrace worship. Worship creates an atmosphere for God to be in. Psalm 22:3 says "God is enthroned in the praises of His people." Worship puts God in His rightful place—when we lift him up, He comes close and changes the atmosphere. If you feel like you need a better atmosphere in your home, or in your office, add worship. If you’re facing a big decision, when you wake up in the morning, put on some worship! Worship shapes our soul, and when we worship, we usher in the presence of Jesus.
Our purpose is to BE WITH JESUS—to walk with him. So today, take a moment with God; commit the start and end of your day to Him, choose to take a step towards him, offer your life to him daily, and embrace worship. As you read the key scriptures pray that you would know his closeness and his presence and that he would fill you with purpose.
About this Plan
WWJD—more than a bracelet or a bumper sticker, it’s a way of life. In this devotional we ask one fundamental question: "What Would Jesus Do?" As we uncover the life of Jesus, what lessons can he teach us about how he lived, what he spent his time doing, and who he shared his life with? We will be inspired to look at our own lives and ask: WWJD?
