Church Without Walls - Church Is Where You Are

DAY 3 OF 5

How should we work?

We were created by God to be creative ourselves, to bring forth new things, and to work. The beauty of this is that he also gives us a guideline that describes how we should work.

True worship does not take place on Sunday, but where we serve God as a living sacrifice in our daily lives. Paul speaks of putting our whole life at God's disposal. This means that even in my work I always focus on Jesus and on what is his will and not mine.

For example, I am faithful and responsible even when no one sees it, because I know that God will set me above higher things at the right time. (Luke 16:10).

We are to work with a servant's heart. We are to work diligently, conscientiously, and cheerfully. We are not to be lazy and do only what is necessary. When we do these things, people see how faith has transformed our lives. If we don't work this way, it looks like faith is not really changing us. We do not focus on being seen by others and acting in a way that is "pleasing to man," but rather on giving first place to the will of God. In doing so, we may know that God is the one who sees us, rewards us, and with whom there is no respect of person (vv. 22-25). This truth brings a new lightness and perspective to our daily work.

Prayer, Get Free and Next Step:

Go into prayer with God and check with him where unhealthy behaviours have crept into your work. Where do you find grumbling, frustration, and laziness rather than gratitude, joy, and diligence? You can confess this and trade it in with Jesus. For example, you can say, "Jesus, I confess my grumbling and turn it over to you. I receive new gratitude for my work from you and want to practise it in my everyday life.

About this Plan

Church Without Walls - Church Is Where You Are

Work can be the sphere where we proclaim God's glory and where people see in our lives that we are letting God lead us. Work can be the place where we help people and are a light by what we do and how we do it. Sounds simple in theory, however the reality is often different. What can stop us from turning the workplace into a dynamic place of worship?
