Real Hope: A Study of 1 John

DAY 2 OF 5

Bringing Light To The Darkness

Imagine writing a letter to a group of people you really care about. Imagine you want to give them something to hold on to as a compass for life in the words you write. What would you say? Would you find words that would be read again and again, passed on from generation to generation?

I don’t think John would have had any idea we would be reading his letter today, but God knew. God knew that John wanted people to look to Jesus for their sense of truth and their way of love, the true north to guide people’s lives. God has always wanted that for us, for all people for all generations.

The words ‘truth’ and ‘love’ have been so misused and distorted, perhaps more so these days than ever before. If all we had to live by were the people who have broken the compass for life, we would be like blind people searching in the dark.

The truth and love of Jesus has always been a light that drives out the darkness of the distorted. When we allow the truth and love of Jesus into our lives and into our hearts, it changes the essence of how we live. Remaining in this truth and love is like having some of heaven’s eternity in us right now. Being able to love others and live truthfully in a way that makes the dark places light can make life worth living in a whole new way.

About this Plan

Real Hope: A Study of 1 John

In this plan we will undertake a study of the book of 1 John, in the New Testament. The book of 1 John is the first of three books, written by John the elder to house church believers. The book of 1 John encourages believers to remember that God is light and love and therefore to live lives that reflect that light and love with one another and the world.
