The Voices You Listen to Will Determine the Steps You Take
In today's passage, we can see that the spies communicated to the people that the land God had promised them was indeed as he had said it would be. They even brought back a sample of the extraordinary fruits they found in the place God had prepared for them.
In verse 30, Caleb spoke to everyone: "Let us go up to conquer because we can, because God told us that that place belongs to us. He told us that land was prepared for us. God promised us that we would be able to conquer it and inherit it."
But despite this, the people decided to focus on the wrong challenges. By listening to the voices of the other ten spies, the Israelites took the wrong steps.
This story fascinates me because it challenges my faith. How many times have we found ourselves in the same position?! On the one hand, God's promise resounds in our hearts, and on the other hand, the voices of people around us point us in the opposite direction.
It is important to trust God to move forward and make the decisions that will lead us to take the right steps, the steps toward all that He has prepared for us.
The Israelites made the wrong decision and did not enter the Promised Land, simply because they paid more attention to the wrong voices. Let us listen to the voices that align with the voice of God and adjust our steps accordingly.
Prayer: Lord, in the midst of bad news, uncertainty and negative reports, I ask You to help me focus on the right voices. I ask that Your voice would resonate in my heart with greater certainty than any fear or doubt I may have. In Jesus' name. Amen.
