Living a Life That Honors Godنموونە
The Example of Holy Women
Peter highlights Sarah as an example of a woman with inner beauty, and calls Christian women to follow her example. What was so special about Sarah that we should copy her behavior? For one thing, she submitted to her husband and showed him respect. Nowadays it might sound pretty strange to call a husband “lord,” but back then this was a common expression of respect and submission. Women might find other means to express the same attitude of heart, by respecting their husband as the “head” of the family.
Besides being submissive, Sarah is described as a woman who did good and did not fear anything that was frightening. There can be a lot of things that frighten us. But the Bible contains many examples of people in very hard situations who were exhorted to not be afraid since the Lord was with them. For example, when the Israelites were about to enter a land full of enemies, God told them to “be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Such an attitude requires faith in God.
Are you such a faithful woman (or man) who does good in God’s strength?
