Being Full of Faith
By Pastor Joe Champion
You may feel like you’re under attack right now – whether the attack is physical, or it’s an attack of fear and anxiety. Or it may even be a fear of running out of toilet paper! In the midst of the current atmosphere, we need to ask ourselves a question: Will we walk in fear or faith?
If we want to walk full of faith, and have faith to share with others, then we need to make sure our “faith tank” is getting filled up with all the right things. In 1 Thessalonians 5:4-28, Paul gives us great encouragement on how to navigate a challenging situation.
Here are four ways to fill up your faith tank:
Be full of gratitude. Attitude makes a big difference in this moment! Paul encourages the Thessalonians to “rejoice always” (1 Thess 5:16). Not only when things are going well, but always! We can choose to set our minds on thankfulness and gratitude.
Be full of prayer. Pray continually as you go about your day. You don’t have to restrict your prayer time to a formal prayer meeting or time alone in your prayer closet. The Bible instructs us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess 5:17).
Be full of the word. The word of God is a source of truth and comfort for us. We are called to “test all things; hold fast what is good” (1 Thess 5:21). We cannot believe everything we hear, but we can depend on the word of God.
Be full of compassion. As we share our faith with others, we are called to meet people where they are and be compassionate. This is an opportunity to pay attention to what is happening with our neighbors, meet physical needs, and “comfort each other” (1 Thess 5:11). Take a step to serve those around you, whether it’s an encouraging word, running an errand, or simply spending time together.
We are called to walk as children of the light. Now is not the time to shrink back in fear but to be bold in faith and reach out to others around you! Being full of faith will bring hope to others.
