Fighting for Relationship = Fighting for Family.
That might be more of a hope than a reality for some of us. And to be honest, our families are so dysfunctional that we don’t want our relationships to be like our family. We want something different. At the core of it all, every single one of us wants to be accepted, loved and feel like we belong. This is really hard to find on Sunday mornings, when people are coming and going, serving, have crying babies on their side and only make 1-2 church services a month.
Your relationships can be different. Are you willing to lay down your life for the people around you? Are you willing to give up your time to be with people? Are you willing to meet the interests of other people above the interests of your own?
John, a disciple of Jesus, asks us all to live that way. And he even asks us to consider thinking about “our stuff” differently. If someone is in need, would you be willing to sacrifice your next big purchase for the sake of someone else? Yes, this is a radical way of living, but I think most of us are desiring to be a part of this type of community.
Questions:
When is the last time you selflessly gave and had to sacrifice your desires?
Has there ever been a time in your life where you needed some help, but felt alone?
