For the Bible Tells Me So
As Christians, we have chosen the Bible as the unchanging standard for all we do and believe because Jesus did. We must read and obey the Word of God to realize our identity in Christ. Jesus claimed that every word of Scripture is fixed in the universe—more so than the very planet we walk upon. It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law. (Luke 16:17)
The Word of God also provides us with endurance, encouragement, and hope as we follow Jesus in a world that is broken. As you follow Jesus and allow the Word of God to reshape you, it will rebuild you so you can function in every dimension: your relationships, your thoughts, your habits, and your choices.
In a world that is shaking, shifting, dangerous, and unsettling, God wants to make you stable. Even more than that, God has good works for you to do. God wants to make you fruitful. He wants to make you a light in the darkness. God is going to use you in your environments and in your life. He will do this as you submit yourself to the Word of God and allow it to refine and improve you.
Each of us is a work in progress. When you find another area of your life that is not where you or God want it to be, don’t get discouraged. When you find some new sin in your heart or uncover some ugly stuff in your life, don’t get depressed. Every restoration project is a work in progress, and every follower of Jesus is also a work in progress.
The Word of God is also like a map. Here’s what I’ve noticed with maps. Whether you use a paper map or app, you end up trusting the people who put that map or app together. And that’s how it is with the Word of God. There are times when we think, I really want to go right, but God’s Word is telling me to go left. You can trust the Word of God in all situations.
Christianity and the essentials we looked at from the lyrics of Jesus Loves Me make all the difference in our present lives and world. As God renews your thinking, through your obedience and by the power of the Holy Spirit, you will begin to live from the place of your true design and experience the fulfillment and purpose God has planned for you.
Do you have an established or consistent routine of reading God’s Word? Make that commitment today.
