Does God Exist?
This is perhaps the most important question for anyone to answer. Why? Because what we believe (and what we don’t believe) about God shapes what we believe about everything. The existence of God informs our understanding of the meaning of life, the origins of the universe, free will, what happens after we die, the existence of the supernatural, and so many other things. And what we believe about the big things in life greatly influences what we do in the small things.
If there is no God, then ultimately, there is no purpose to life. There is no meaning to the universe. Everything we see, touch, taste, hear, and smell is merely the result of chance. Our lives are nothing more than a sequence of predetermined chemical reactions. We are nothing more than atoms bumping against atoms that happen to be arranged in a sequence that results in human life.
But, if, on the other hand, the God of the Bible is real, that changes everything. Because the God of the Bible is portrayed as a loving Creator, who created everything with purpose and full of goodness. This Creator made human beings in His own image. That means, on page one of the Bible, humanity was given dignity, value, and purpose. That means you have dignity, value, and purpose. Not based on what you do, but based on the God who made you. And this God didn’t stop there. This God chose to enter into His creation 2,000 years ago as a man named Jesus. Why? So that through His life on Earth, He could defeat sin and death and make a way for all of us to once again partner with Him in His plan to restore all creation.
What we believe about God shapes what we believe about everything.
This is why atheist-turned-Christian apologist, C.S. Lewis, said, “Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.”
Which leads us to the question this Bible Plan will be wrestling with: Does God exist?
Maybe you started this Bible Plan to strengthen your understanding of what you believe and why you believe it. Maybe you’re here because you’ve been struggling in your faith and you’ve been wrestling with doubts. Maybe you stumbled on this plan because you used to believe in God, but now you don’t.
While this plan cannot prove the existence of God with 100% certainty, over the course of these six days together we’ll look at four different arguments for the existence of God. We’ll look at the scientific, historical, and philosophical evidence which supports the idea that the very foundation of reality is a loving, supernatural, creator God.
However you ended up here, don’t stop now. Keep searching for truth and following the evidence where it leads.
Will you continue on this journey of wrestling with the question: Does God exist?
