The Gift: Advent Bible Planنموونە
What a Time
“What Child is this
Whose crown is this
On the ground I live
Falling on my knees
Giving everything to the King of kings.”
The coming of God’s child was foretold, but nothing can compare to the experience we have when we see God for who He is for the first time. In the presence of a perfect God, our imperfections are obvious. We don’t live up to the standard of perfection and the outcome, or wages, of that imperfection is death.
But God, in His mercy, didn’t give us what we deserve. Instead, he took the one person who did live up to the standard of perfection, and swapped our punishment for the reward that Jesus had earned. Not only did we not earn the gift He’s given us, but we earned the opposite - punishment. When we truly witness what God has done for us - giving the perfect gift we don’t deserve, and taking the punishment we do deserve, what else can we respond with but to fall on our knees and worship? He’s the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, the one true Ruler.
Worship looks like giving Him everything. Our hearts, our bodies, our thoughts, our desires. And unlike us receiving his gift of eternal life, God does deserve our worship. This Christmas, what can we give in worship of our Father? Have we been holding anything back from Him? When we feel ourselves cling to things we wish to control or things we don’t want to give up, reflect on the Gospel, because when faced with who God is and what he chose to do for us, we’ll fall to our knees in worship.
Prayer: God thank you for your good and perfect gift in the form of your Son, Jesus.
