Day 6-Addiction Must Fall
As soon as we say the word, “addicted,” we start thinking about the big addictions of alcohol and drugs, but the truth is we’re addicted to all kinds of things.
An addiction is anything we can’t live without. It’s a habit we can’t break. It’s a person we can’t stop hanging out with. It’s a pattern we can’t change. Addiction robs us of our very best life, and it dims the fame and glory of God in our lives.
The key is to look past the symptoms of the addiction and focus on the cause. The games, the internet videos, the food, the friends are only a symptom. The real cause of the addiction is something else—usually pain. Somebody rejected us. Somebody hurt our feelings. They made us feel like we’re not good enough. We are lonely, angry, tired, frustrated, afraid, betrayed, lost, disgusted, sad, or just plain upset. The addiction is whatever shows up and promises to make us feel better.
We are not perfect and are vulnerable human beings. God wants us to understand that our vulnerability isn’t the worst thing in the world, but with God, we are able. We are able because God is able, and with God, we are strong.
Do you want to be a stronger student, a stronger son or daughter, a stronger friend, or a stronger leader? Then admit your weakness. Let Jesus accept you just as you are, and He will exchange your weakness for His strength. Then accept His invitation to do the things you couldn’t do on your own.
About this Plan
Created especially for ages 8-12, this resource will help young readers face the giants in their lives. Topics include facing fear, rejection, comfort, anger, and addiction with the knowledge that these “giants” are already defeated! This study is based off Pastor Louie Giglio’s popular Goliath Must Fall series and just might change everything about the way you see Jesus and how to conquer the giants in your life.
