Day 3- Contentment
“So I don’t mind not fitting your timeline…”
Once we come into a relationship with the Lord, we need to be willing to surrender our control and our previous desires to Him. If I have a relationship with the one and true God, why turn to anything else for contentment?
Godliness with contentment is great gain. Are you free from a commitment? Do not look for one. If you aren’t in a relationship yet and that's all you can think about, try to surrender that desire to God. While God designed us to be in relationship, it comes in His timing, and in His timing it is beautiful. How different we’d be from the world if we would seek God first, and then a significant other. The Israelites had begged God for a king over and over again, despite how God had set them apart from other nations. And the Lord eventually gave them what they wanted, but warned them that all the King would do is take from them.
I don’t want to be like the Israelites, begging over and over for something God has withheld from me for a reason. Why would I want God to put me in a position that would hurt me even more? Right now I may live in a right way in undivided attention to the Lord. That is the position God has given me. May I grow to be content in it.
Every season in life comes with new challenges and new blessings. The only constant, the only thing that never changes is God. He is always enough and only in Him will we find true joy and peace.
Journal Entry: “What else could one do but fall into God’s loving arms at the sound of His whisper in your soul; a whisper so gentle it wraps itself around you? So there I was last night sitting at the kitchen table. And as my dad read the Bible, it was as if I was sitting before God Himself. He spoke words that cut at my flesh as I began to break, piece by piece, until I was bare and broken before Him. And I wondered…what took me so long? God is all I need.” -3/8/16
Prayer: You are all I need, Jesus. Give me the strength and wisdom to let go of things that are not from You. Help me grow in my trust and rest in You. For You alone are enough. Amen.
Action: Write down something or someone you have been holding onto that you know isn’t from the Lord. Now let it go.
