Our Christmas Stories: A 26-Day Advent Devotional

DAY 25 OF 26

The 3 L’s Of The Advent Wreath

Read on December 25 (Christmas Day)

Story provided by Taffie

“I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” —John 10:10

Taffie was a teacher for over forty years, and every Christmas she’d bring a shiny silver box to school.

The other teachers would say, “It must be Advent time because here comes Mrs. O’Conner with her shiny box.”

The box contained an Advent wreath that Taffie used to teach her students about the meaning of Christmas through three “L” words using the wreath as her model:

  • Love: God’s love was like the circular shape of the wreath, with no beginning and no end.
  • Life: The evergreens the wreath was constructed of represented life eternal.
  • Light: The candles reminded them that Jesus was “the light of the world.”

Taffie shared her shiny-box lesson with thousands of children, including the children at the Jewish temple next door. She used the wreath to tell them about Yeshua, who was prophesied in the Old Testament scriptures.

She did not have children of her own to raise, but she was blessed to have the opportunity to teach countless children the story of Christmas.

Let’s allow Taffie’s silver box to be the gift each of us opens this Christmas Day. Inside, you will find God’s gifts for you this Christmas.

May your Christmas Day be filled with God’s love. Remember 1 John 4:16: “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” We pray that his perfect love will surround you and that you will feel encircled in his presence all day long.

May your Christmas be a reminder that life on this earth is wonderful, but our best lives still lie ahead. We celebrate Christmas today knowing that one day we will celebrate eternally with Christ.

One day, every day will be a holiday!

This Christmas Day will create memories in your life.

Treasure whatever makes this a special day in your life and the lives of your families.

About this Plan

Our Christmas Stories: A 26-Day Advent Devotional

In Our Christmas Stories, dozens of women share memories of past Christmases. From inspiring to bittersweet, these personal stories may have different details, but they all ultimately reveal the same story of Advent, of waiting for the “good news of great joy” of Jesus’ birth (Luke 2:10). Janet Denison also provides short devotional thoughts with each story, ensuring that the greatest story of Christmas is never just a memory.
