Jesus Over Our Cityنموونە
Carrying the mission of Jesus is a massive burden to carry alone. When you are alone, everything seems more desperate, more heightened, and more stressful. When you are alone, you can become timid, fearful, and insecure. You have been there, right? The first time you stay at home alone. The first time your car runs out of gas, and you are alone. The first time the holidays come and go with a loved one gone, you feel alone.
Have you ever gone on vacation alone? Have you ever gone on a crazy adventure alone? Being alone and feeling alone is a draining place to be. The idea or belief that you are supposed to jump into the adventure of carrying the mission of Jesus from city to city, alone, is terrifying.
That is why Jesus doesn't want you to do it alone.
Jesus didn’t carry the mission by himself. He imitated the mission, then sent out his followers to follow his lead. Oftentimes, when we realize that we are also called to the mission and sent out by Jesus, we believe it becomes our mission to “save” people. That is not the mission. The mission is to tell people about the love and grace Jesus offers.
And we have an out. “If any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet.” If there is peace, stay. If there is no peace, leave.
Jesus is over our city.
