Eternal Needs
Ps.23:6 “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.” [NRSV]
When the Lord is your Shepherd, He is for you. God is so committed to you unconditionally, even when you give up on Him, He will not give up on you! His goodness and His mercy like good sheepdogs, sniff you out, track you down, and put you back on track. What is goodness? It is all the benefits and promises of God to you. And mercy is the Hebrew word Hesed translated to mean unfailing love and loving-kindness. Hesed speaks of God’s commitment to you. God loves you because you are His!
Ps.23:6 “Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.” [NLT].
To dwell is to be at home. When we truly live in the light of eternity, it will show in;
i. how we love God. Sadly, because some have tried to make this earth their home, their love for God is not real.
ii. how we view the world. The problem most times is we treat this world as home, giving it a position it was never meant to have, hence our confusion and misery. Only when we have an accurate view of our heavenly home would we have the right perspective of our earthly visit. We are only visiting. Visitors do not dwell.
iii. how we relate to others. If you have eternity in view, you will effortlessly love and forgive. You will go to great lengths to connect people to God.
If we let the perspective of our real home dominate our lives, we will see everything in the light of eternity. If you keep in mind how much God loves you, you will allow goodness and mercy to keep you going until you see Jesus in glory! Even though your circumstances are terrible, your God is good!
Father, without fail, Your goodness and your mercy shall pursue me and overtake me all the days of my life. While others are chasing blessings, while they are chasing goodness and mercy, I will follow you, and your goodness and mercy will follow me, and they will overtake me in the Mighty Name of Jesus.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow my children all the days of their lives, no matter how fast they run, your goodness and mercy will pursue and overtake them. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow your Church until Jesus comes.
“and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long”
I will dwell in, not visit, the house of the Lord.
Father, in your house, in your presence, and your kingdom, my seat will not be vacant in the Mighty Name of Jesus.
As you sing this Hymn, bring all your security needs to mind and focus your heart on the Good Shepherd, the shepherd of your soul. Make it your declaration that the Lord is my shepherd, and I am His sheep, I will hear His voice, and I will follow His leading.
Shepherd of my soul I give you full control,
Wherever You may lead I will foll-ow.
I have made the choice to listen for Your vo-ice,
Wherever You may lead I will go.
Be it in a quiet pasture or by a gentle stream,
The Shepherd of my soul is by my side.
Should I face a mighty mountain or a valley dark and deep,
The Shepherd of my soul will be my guide.
Shepherd of my soul Oh You have made me whole,
Where’er I hear You call how my tea-ars flow.
How I feel your love how I want to se-rve
I gladly give my heart to You O – Lord.
Be it in the flowing river or in the quiet night,
The Shepherd of my soul is by my side.
Should I face the stormy weather or the dangers of this world.
The Shepherd of my soul will be my guide.
About this Plan
Having the Lord as a Shepherd, as The Shepherd, or as our Shepherd would be mind-blowing. But it has to be the Lord is 'my personal shepherd,' and that is the most astonishing truth. If the Lord is your Shepherd, and you are His sheep, He will take care of EVERYTHING. Special thanks to Martin Nystrom for the Hymn "Shepherd of my soul" featured in this plan.
