Love God Greatly: Everlasting Covenant

DAY 9 OF 28

After the Israelites received the law they were quick to promise obedience and quick to keep the law. But it didn’t take long for them to fail. We are the same way. We are quick to promise obedience and then fall short. Because of sin we are not capable of keeping the law perfectly. Sin has ruined this ability in us, but not all is lost.

When Jesus came, He came not to get rid of the law but to fulfill it. He lived up to the law’s expectations. He fulfilled the law’s intent, and He did this for us. We are not only forgiven of our sins but we are given the righteousness of Jesus. He kept the law for us because He knew we couldn’t.

This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to keep the law. If we love the Lord we will want to be obedient; obedience is a sign of a changed heart. Because of Christ, the law can no longer condemn us. Instead, it shows us the way to live and points us to Jesus.

Lord, You are full of grace and mercy. We do not deserve all You have done for us, and we are often lacking in thankfulness. Please forgive our ungratefulness. Move our hearts to be in awe of Your love and care for us.
