What are you scared of? Or, have you ever been asked the question, “what do you fear”? Well, as a child, I was asked these questions pretty regularly by friends and family. I would answer by saying it was some sort of insect or being left alone in a dark room. Of course, as a kid those scenarios are heightened because you’re a kid. You take what is not that big of a deal and turn it into something huge.
Well, when you grow up those fears often change into something a little different. Like having the fear of paying a bill or two, our careers, wondering if our kids are going to grow up into mature adults, fearing about the future state of our country, etc. These are real fears that can consume us if we’re not careful. If our priorities and thoughts are not in check with a biblical worldview, then we can easily let things paralyze us from being effective in this life. We often get so focused on this world and lose sight of life after death.
Jesus reminds us in these verses that God is the one we ought to ultimately fear and worship. This is a healthy fear and reverence. We often lose sight of the One that has ultimate authority over life and death. Our current circumstances are important, but not as important as what happens after we pass on. You and I will live forever. The Bible is very clear on there being only two destinations after death, Heaven and Hell. There is eternal life in Jesus. Thank you Jesus that there is hope in this life and in the life to come for those of us who have put our faith in You.

About this Plan
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness again, but will have the light of life.” In this daily Bible reading plan, Illuminate, we study the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel of Luke chapters 12-17. In these passages of Scripture, Jesus sheds light on the kingdom of God and guides us to live our lives in light of eternity.
