The parable of the Lost Son is one of my favorite stories in the Bible. I love how Jesus goes into the story of the younger son who goes into the world trying to find his own way, then returns home back to his father! It's an incredible picture of how we, as sinners, try to figure out life ourselves only to realize we can’t do it, and ultimately have a father who is waiting for us to come back to him!
But then we see the older brother come on the scene and he is upset that his younger brother is back. He claims that he has never disobeyed and worked really hard for his father. Then the father says something that has been a reminder in my own life…” Son...you are always with me”. The father is telling the older son that his reward is being with the father and knowing that he has a loving parent there with him! So often as a kid who grew up in the church, I looked at other people who went out and did whatever they wanted and then were celebrated when they returned. I thought “what about me”? I love when Jesus reminds us that He is always with us. I often forget that I’ve had the comfort of knowing the Father from a young age. So maybe you have known the Father for awhile. Are there things in your life that are making you calloused or jealous, that you need to give to God?

About this Plan
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness again, but will have the light of life.” In this daily Bible reading plan, Illuminate, we study the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel of Luke chapters 12-17. In these passages of Scripture, Jesus sheds light on the kingdom of God and guides us to live our lives in light of eternity.
