Faithful God: A Devotional From I Am Theyنموونە
Day 3: FEAR
Praise is a weapon. Testimony takes ground back in your soul. Faith without action is dead, but on the contrary, faith in action - worship in action - truth and love in motion - these are the things that drive fear out the door.
Have you ever had “angry faith”? That resilient, fighting kind of faith that is unwilling to believe or hear anything besides the promises of God’s Word over your life?
The title track of our new record, “Faithful God,” is a song that we wanted to carry those kinds of guts. The lyrics in the bridge of the song say, “I am convinced that your promises will hold together and I will dwell in the hope of your love forever.” Sometimes, these words feel like a battle cry. Something the “super” might say to the “natural” -something the Spirit might say to the flesh- something we can begin to proclaim over the impossible situations standing in our way.
“I am convinced God’s promises will hold together for my friend navigating through divorce."
"I am convinced God’s promises will hold together for my friend battling cancer.”
“I am convinced God’s promises will hold together when income ceases.”
“I am convinced God’s promises will hold together when Christians leave their faith.”
“I am convinced God’s promises will hold together when people are dying of a pandemic.”
“I will hold fast. I am convinced.”
If you are in the midst of an impossibly hard season, stop what you’re doing right now and go read Psalm 42 out loud. Go to a quiet space, maybe take a walk, and read it out loud as if you wrote it as a prayer to God.
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior, and my God.”
Psalm 42: 11
When we lose control, it’s easy to listen to ourselves when really we need to instead speak to ourselves.
Sometimes you need to speak to your soul and tell yourself what you’re going to do. That’s exactly what David is doing in this Psalm.
When you are surrounded, remain persuaded. Remain steadfast.
Even when all hope seems lost, determine to put your hope in God.
Raise your voice loud over every circumstance and proclaim the goodness and faithfulness of God.
1 Timothy 2:13 says, “if we are faithless, He remains faithful— for He cannot deny Himself.”
He will remain faithful. His promises will hold together.
Today, will you choose to believe that?
