What Does The Bible Say About Grief And Sorrow?

DAY 2 OF 10

When we are facing grief and sorrow, we can cry out to God.

Being a child of God does not protect us from sorrow here and now. But we know that God is our absolutely good and almighty Father, and we can cry out to Him in our pain like David did:

"Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress;
 my eye is wasted from grief;
 my soul and my body also.
For my life is spent with sorrow,
 and my years with sighing;
my strength fails because of my iniquity,
 and my bones waste away." (Psalm 31:9-10, ESV)

We can be sure that God hears our cries. Sometimes He will help us by changing our circumstances and so turning our grief into joy. At other times, He will comfort us in the midst of our sorrows. In Isaiah 41:10, God encourages His children: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”.

When you are facing grief and sorrow, do you turn to the Lord?

About this Plan

What Does The Bible Say About Grief And Sorrow?

There is a lot of grief and sorrow in the world. This is all a result of human sin, and we are facing the consequences every day. The Bible does not play that down. But it also shows us how it is possible to rejoice in the midst of sorrow, and how God will ultimately create a new earth where grief and sorrow will be no more.
