Joseph's Life Story

DAY 12 OF 26

Joseph is a trustworthy and hard-working person

When Joseph was working as a slave in Potiphar’s house, his master “made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had”. Now he is in prison, and we see the same thing happen: “the keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison”. Think of that; a prisoner who is put in charge of all the other prisoners without the keeper of the prison even paying attention! This makes clear that Joseph was considered a trustworthy man. He did his job well, even though it wasn’t a job that had prestige.

In his letter to the Colossians, the apostle Paul urges his readers to do the same. Even if they are slaves and their work might not be valued by their masters, they should “work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” (Colossians 3:23). Paul continues: “from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward”.

I don’t know what kind of job you have, or what tasks you have to carry out. But let Joseph’s example inspire you to work heartily and do your job well — whether other people see and value your work or not. God sees it!

About this Plan

Joseph's Life Story

“God loves you, and He has a plan for your life.” This is a popular statement among Christians, and it is true. But God’s ways are not always easy! They may include suffering to transform us; we may go through deep valleys before reaching the heights of God’s promises. Joseph’s life story, as recorded in the book of Genesis, is a good example of this.
