Welcome the Wilderness

DAY 6 OF 14

Memorials

“Tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the

covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan

were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” Joshua 4:7

In Scripture, we watch the people of God forget his greatness time after time. We see it when God leads the Israelites out of Egypt and when he is giving Moses the Ten Commandments. They sit at the bottom of the mountain and build a golden calf to worship instead. We see it even with Jesus after he tries to tell his disciples that he will rebuild in three days, but they miss the point of what he is saying and forget his lessons when he is dead.

How often do we forget God’s goodness in our own lives?

Maybe we should take a note from Joshua. Like the nation of Israel, we need to find a way to set up memorials of where God moved in our lives. For you, it might look like keeping a list of things you are thankful for each day. Maybe it’s a tattoo or a piece of art on the wall to commemorate God’s rescue.

Find your stones and lay them down. Then point back to them to tell people what God helped you walk through when it should have been impossible.
