Since I Met You: A Five-Day Devotional With Jamie Kimmettنموونە
DAY 3 - Chosen and Free
A wise man called Thomas Watson once said, "Adoption is a greater mercy than Adam had in paradise” And he’s right! Adam had no need of adoption in Eden - he was in perfect union with his Father. But how great is the mercy that calls wandering orphans like you and I children and brings us into the family of God?
Is there any desire in a child's heart greater than being chosen? Maybe. But not many! I still remember lining up in the school playground with 40 other boys and waiting anxiously to be picked for football (soccer) during playtime. No one wanted to be last or left out! Cards on the table, as adults and spiritually speaking, we are pretty much the same: we, too, long to be loved and chosen.
The reason is, when God made us, He placed in our heart a God-shaped hole. We are built for relationship with our maker.
And if your greatest fear is being fully known but rejected then how INCREDIBLE is it that your Heavenly Father knows the worst about you, but still He is the one that loves you most! The Bible says, “before the foundation of the world” Jesus Christ was crucified - this isn’t God's plan B! Jesus was always a savior! And like a good shepherd goes after his sheep, so He’s come at just the right time to find and bring you home. Only put your trust in Jesus and that’s how you know you are chosen! The question is not, “am I chosen?” but, “will I believe?”
Friends, the day we believe is the day we belong! Belief breaks every chain that keeps us from the house of God because it wipes the sin that denies us entry. Since we met Jesus, how often have we cried, “ABBA, Father?” No longer slaves but Children! Free to call God our Father. Free and united in our relationships with one another and gifted with excitement for that great day our freedom in Christ is fully realized. How, then, can we turn back from such beautiful liberty? Where else can we go? “He who the son sets free is free indeed”.
“I’m a child that’s chosen. Chains are broken. No going back, I’m free”
About this Plan
