EVERYWHERE I GO
How many times in your life have you asked God to be with you today? It is either the first or second phrase in most of our prayers: “Dear God, thank you for this day. Would you go/be with me as I…” Am I right or am I right?
Well somehow it took me listening to my daughter pray for me to hear the absurdity of this prayer. Kids simply regurgitate the prayers of those around them which is both amazing and terrifying. So as I listened to her pray, “Jesus, would you be with daddy as he goes on tour…” my mind was blown with what picture that paints about Jesus. Think about it. Is Jesus’ answer something like this? “Ah, well kid I’ll think about it. Maybe I’ll be with your dad and maybe I won’t.”
I surely don’t want my kids growing up with the ethos that Jesus may or may not show up. And if we get what we want, then Jesus really showed up today, but when things don’t go our way, then He must have been too busy or something.
Why is it that the #1 promise of God that people think of is… Drum roll please… “God will never leave or forsake us!” Why do we need to recite that awesome promise so much and reassure ourselves that it’s true? What if it’s actually true that Jesus and His Spirit will never leave nor divorce themselves from us (Deut. 31:8)? What if Jesus actually meant his final words to His disciples, “I will be with you to the very end of the age!” (Matt. 28:20) Ok I’m going to change my question from what if it’s true, to what if we lived like this was true?
How different would your day be if you started off living as though Jesus IS already with you? What if your new prayer was a prayer of thanks; an acknowledgment that Jesus is already with you? And what if this wasn't just a morning prayer, but something you prayed throughout the day as you continued to see evidence of Jesus with you?
Pray this with me: "Jesus, thank you that you are alive, and well, and on the move! Open my eyes to see where you are at work in, and through, and all around me."
Not only is Jesus with you, but you are with Him! No longer will I ask Jesus to come into my world. Instead, I ask that I would have eyes to see and seek HIS Kingdom all around me, every moment.
Today, try to live as if it's true!
