Eternity

This chapter contains a play on words around the word “rest.” The writer of Hebrews parallels the Old Testament Sabbath, or day of rest, at the end of the week (verse 4) with the rest given at the end of life (verse 9). People can only enter that rest if they rest from working their way into heaven (verse 10).

Are you working your way into God’s favor? We need to rest in our relationship with God. In this life we need to be working for God’s glory, but not to enter our eternal rest.
