Starting in verse 9, Isaiah shows how foolish people can be. They create a god in their minds, make an idol to look like that god, and then worship it. The god requires the worshiper to create and maintain it. By contrast, the God of the Bible made us. We depend on God to care for us. You probably have never made an idol and worshipped it, but have you filled a bank account and worshipped it; or a job, relationship, reputation, or anything else we depend on instead of God. God wants us to depend on Him alone.
