Living by Faith

DAY 24 OF 24

The Lord is My Strength

Habakkuk’s faith is able to withstand the great trials of this life because he finds strength in his almighty heavenly Father. This strength of God is the grace God gives His children to face the challenges and afflictions of each new day boldly with a smile. It is the strength that renews the inner being so that we do not lose heart (2 Corinthians 4:16). It is the strength that lifts us from the valley of despondency and leads us into heights of unparalleled joy. It is the strength that enables us to live each day by faith till we arrive home.

The world asks us to seek this strength within ourselves. “You are strong, if only you believe in yourself,” says the wisdom of this world. However God tells us that this strength is something beyond this world, for it is the very strength of God. We are weak and frail and it is God alone who can draw us from the pit of destruction, set our feet upon the rock and make our steps secure (Psalm 40:2). This is the power of the gospel, that we are saved by the merit and might of someone far greater than ourselves. He is the strongman who has bound Satan! Since Jesus has overcome the world, we can have peace in this world (John 16:33).

God’s grace is sufficient for us, for His power is made perfect in weakness. This is why we may boast all the more gladly of our weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon us. May we too join the apostle Paul and say, “for the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)”
