There's Hope For Today

DAY 47 OF 366

My flight was delayed – then cancelled. I missed my meeting. I couldn’t get an aisle seat. The guy next to me looked like he had a fever. My tray table was broken. My luggage didn’t make it. The hotel was out of non-smoking rooms. The mattress must have been purchased from prison supply. Have you ever had a day like that?

Sometimes things don’t work out. Paul wanted to take Barnabas on his second missionary journey but it didn’t work out. He wanted to go to Asia, but that did not work out either; flight cancelled. Next, he tried to enter Bythinia but that didn’t work out either; God said no (Acts 16:6-7). Finally, the doors opened up for Paul to go to Macedonia, a place it had never occurred to him to visit. Paul’s great travel disaster turned into one of his great missionary conquests. Sometimes God’s leadership can be most clearly seen in the things that don’t work out. Press on when it seems that circumstances are conspiring against you.

God’s creative genius is at work amidst disappointments, cancellations, obstructions and delay. Now you call it disaster, but one day you may call it grace.
