Looking for Jesus
by Bryan Craig
DAY FOUR
Scripture: Luke 24:25-27, 30-32
“He said to them, ‘How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter His glory.’ And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning Himself.
When He was at the table with them, He took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him, and He disappeared from their sight.
They asked each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while He talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?'”
Thought: Jesus had died, but He came to His disciples. He took time to explain the Scriptures to them, tying the Old Testament to His very life. He was living proof that God’s Word is true and that He was Who He said He was. When we spend time in God’s Word, we see Jesus.
Jesus re-institutes the Lord’s Supper with these disciples. As He breaks bread with them, they recognize Him. As we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, we see Jesus.
Jesus has also given us spiritual barometers in our hearts to help us recognize His work in our lives.
Application: Do we understand that Jesus is The Word? Are we feasting on Scripture, looking for Jesus in every word? We must be in God’s Word to know Jesus, not just reading it intellectually but giving our hearts to it.
Are we remembering Jesus in our worship? Are we celebrating the Lord’s supper and seeing His sacrifice for us?
Write our thoughts in our journals.
Response: Let’s search the Word for some “Messianic” scriptures that point to Jesus (like Isaiah 9 or 11) and let’s write a Praise and Prayer in our Journals because Jesus has come to us. He is Immanuel, which means, “God with us.”
Let’s break some bread and drink some juice or wine and worship and remember Jesus today.
About this Plan
From the beginning of time, man has been looking for a Savior. When Jesus, the One, came to earth, so many who were looking for Him could not find Him. Perhaps you are looking for Jesus, for a Savior, for validity for your Faith. He is closer than you think.
