Working with Eternity in Mindنموونە
While this devotional plan is about work, we begin in perhaps an unusual but fitting place. Psalm 46 is a song which tells of God’s greatness as the Lord Almighty. As we read through it, we are reminded that God is both powerful and present in every moment of life. The writers of this psalm urge us to look at the world and bear witness to God at work in all of his strength and authority. As we do so, we hear the words of the Lord himself: ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’
If we are to be effective in our life and our work, or even in our life’s work, then we need to acknowledge the Lord in his rightful place over all of our lives. By acknowledging the Lord, we establish a solid foundation that helps order our priorities and places all of life in perspective. We have the opportunity to consider what is truly important and deserves our attention and energy in light of God’s great plan of the establishment of his kingdom through his work in his world.
This is what we will see as we look at the story of the Lord’s servant Daniel over the coming days. As we read through the accounts of his friends, his career, his dreams, and his visions, we will reflect on what God might be saying to us in our own lives.
But first, be still.
