NOT GOING BACK
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
It’s a bit of an obvious statement, don’t you think? It’s not always obvious to us that the life God plans for us is a life of freedom and fullness. In fact, it's easy for us to regularly fall captive to worry and insecurity, to allow ourselves to be weighed down by shame, guilt, or comparison. When we find ourselves burdened by the world's rules and expectations of religion, we need to remind ourselves that following Jesus, is all about living in His grace.
In the following verse, the Apostle Paul writes to the early Christians in Galatia:
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1
‘Not going back’ is a song that celebrates the freedom that we have because of Jesus: that we were once living in darkness but He has rescued us and brought us into the light. Now that we have been set free, we don’t have to go back to the days of being a slave. Now that our chains are gone, we can stand firm and live the life that God has won for us.
Our freedom is secure. Our freedom has been paid for by the sacrifice of God’s only son, Jesus, and with Him, we have been raised to new life.
‘Risen to glory
Christ my saving grace
Here in Your victory
Jesus light the way.’
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" 2 Corinthians 5:17
With our new life bought and paid for, how will we spend it? We should aim to walk as far away from our old lives as possible and walk closer with Jesus. We should yearn, desire, and strive to follow Jesus, and chase after His heart.
‘Now my life is a new creation
I will follow the light of the Son
I’ll forever be walking in freedom
I’m alive in unending love.’
Jesus died so that we could be set free. His desire for us is that we live life to the fullest. When we choose to accept and trust in Jesus, we see that He has brought us to a wide-open, spacious, and limitless place. We consciously choose Jesus and we choose to live our lives in Him.
This is such amazing news! I don’t know about you, but I’m not going back!
