Have you ever realized how much things can change in just one day? For better or for worse, one single moment can alter absolutely everything for us. There was one particular day in history that transformed the world forever. The implications and consequences that derived from the actions on that single day didn’t just make history—they changed history and shaped the destiny of the entire world.
We never realize how much our decisions can impact not only our lives, but also the lives of all those whose destiny is intertwined with ours, and to whom our acceptance or denial of a certain action could imply life or death.
One day, thousands of years ago, a man named Simon traveled from his home town of Cyrene—in Libya in northern Africa—to Jerusalem. Scholars believe he was there to visit the holy city and to take part in the holy feast of Passover. He could have never imagined that on that day he would be called to help the Savior of the world—Jesus Christ. Simon found himself at the Via Dolorosa at the exact time and place where Jesus was passing by, carrying the cross. Jesus would later hang on that cross.
God’s Son was exhausted; He had been up all night, beaten, whipped on His back, and had surely lost lots of blood. Jesus fell as from exhaustion; He was carrying the sin of the whole world. The cross was such a heavy burden that He could not continue. At that moment, Simon was thrown into Jesus’s drama; he was chosen from the multitude and forced to carry Jesus’s heavy, heavy cross.
Simon ran into his destiny; he found himself in Jesus’s path, and his life was forever changed. Myles Munroe said: “Your destiny is chosen by God; your future is certain, whether you arrive there is up to you.” Just as Simon found himself in Jesus’s path, you may feel you are reading this devotional by chance–going through one of your many daily habits. Believe me when I tell you this is not a coincidence. God chose you before the foundation of the world. He has a plan and an incredible destiny for you; whether you arrive there or not is entirely up to you. As you read it, pray that God will give you the grace to not only understand that you have been chosen, but also to realize what you have been chosen for. May you become more and more aware of the calling that is over your life and have the strength and capacity to fulfill it.
