Train with a Purpose
Ready:
“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.” Ephesians 5: 15-17
Set:
To effectively train for a race, you need to train with purpose. If you want to do a long-distance race but fail to prepare, it’s unlikely that you’ll achieve your goal or finish the race at all.
Every aspect of preparing matters and has a purpose–the workouts, recovery, nutrition, hydration, and the rest. Training for any endurance event is a purposeful endeavor and takes discipline, sacrifice, and motivation. There are no shortcuts.
To grow spiritually, you must also approach God with purpose. You can’t just wish or simply say that you want to be closer to God; you must take deliberate, planned steps to get there. This requires sacrifice and readjusting your priorities. You’ll need to evaluate your daily influences (social media, TV, texting, and so on) and make the necessary changes to establish time for God.
Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” When we put God first in everything we do, He will work out everything in our lives. When we train to have God as our goal, we can train with a focused purpose in everything we do.
Go:
1. Write out a spiritual training plan with purpose and meaning.
2. In your life, what are some things that need to be removed for your spiritual growth? What needs to be added?
Workout:
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Overtime:
“Heavenly Father, what a blessing it is to know that You have a plan and a purpose for my life. Help me to seek You as I grow closer to You. Forgive me for putting my plans ahead of Yours and allow me to experience You in new ways as I discover Your purpose for my life.”

About this Plan
This plan is a ten-day guide to increasing your spiritual strength and performance. Many endurance athletes spend hours, days, and months training to compete in an event like Ironman but may not spend time training for their spiritual journey. These athletes have an intense training regimen that can be duplicated in your spiritual training with God. The next ten days prepares you for that. Let the training and competition begin!
