Hearing From Heaven: Listening for the Lord in Daily Lifeنموونە
The Truth From the Spirit
After my fifteenth birthday, I stopped going to church. I wanted to be cool, and the church wasn’t cool enough for me. In the years following, I got into a lot of trouble and lived quite a rebellious life. I look back on my teenage years and remember the truth of God being revealed to me. God used His truth to call me out of my darkness.
The Holy Spirit speaks and reveals truth to both the believer and the unbeliever. As a rebellious teenager, the Spirit of God revealed Himself to me. I realized I had walked on a path of darkness and death. I needed God’s light and life. It took being suspended from school for God to reveal Himself to me. During my two-week suspension from school, the Holy Spirit spoke to me clearly and called me out of my wayward ways.
As believers, we are not alone. The Holy Spirit guides our actions and speaks to us. We need the truth of God daily, and the Holy Spirit gives it to us. But sometimes we don’t listen, and we don’t hear. We assume that God doesn’t speak. But is that true? It is more possible that we have not yet learned how to listen. The Holy Spirit speaks into life the words of scripture.
It is impossible for an unrighteous person to accept the truth without the Holy Spirit revealing what is true. It is also impossible to live a righteous life without the Spirit of Truth revealing what is righteous.
Each follower of Christ is given the Holy Spirit to help open our eyes to His plan. Can we take a moment and pray that the Spirit of Truth would open the eyes of those blinded by darkness? Heavenly Father, thank You for the Spirit who speaks and reveals truth. I pray that You will speak and reveal Your truth to so many who are walking in darkness, Amen!
