Trapped By Fear

DAY 5 OF 5

 The Process of Fear

Fighting fear is a process. As we acknowledge it, we gain strength. As we pull out the root, we gain power. As we trust God, we gain authority. And after all our work, fear still exists. We will always fight against it. But now, with God’s truth etched into our hearts, we can fight differently.

One way I fight fear is finding out how my spiritual enemy tries to attack me. For several years, I have noticed I struggle with fear and anxiety in the fall. School is starting, seasons are changing, and my mind begins to race. If I’m not careful, this time of year leaves me open to certain lies that lead to fear. Fear that God isn’t using me, and that I’m not good enough to homeschool my kids. Taking time to look fear in the face has allowed me to prepare for the battle that happens every year.

Fighting strong begins with discovering the ways we get attacked. Start examining the who, what, when, where, and why of the fear. Does it seem to appear during the same season each year? Do certain personalities or situations trigger it? Maybe specific people or comments? Our spiritual enemy will use any opportunity to suggest we can’t, God won’t, nobody cares, we don’t matter, and it’s too late. But if we recognize our susceptible situations, we can armor up, attack the problem, and speak truth into every lie that is spoken. Struggles and stress won’t cause us to stand paralyzed while fear controls our jobs, friendships, family, and parenting. We will see the attack coming and stand victorious.

Fear will no longer have a voice unless we give it one. Life before Christ included a fear-filled identity. Our new identity is one of power, love, and self-discipline. Walk forward in confidence, knowing that fear has no control. To remind you of the truth you have discovered, write out a few Scriptures and cover your house, car, and workspace with them. Then surround yourself with people, mentors, and a life group who will point out His truth often. You are more than a conqueror! You have victory in Jesus!
