Getting To Know The Real You

DAY 5 OF 9

Let’s say you make up a game. As the maker, you get to name the game and define how it’s played. The same would be true if you invented an app or built a subdivision. A creator gets to name and define his creation.

The same is true when it comes to our relationship with God. He made us. Therefore, God, and only God, gets to name us and determine our purpose.  Ephesians 2:10 says, “He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago” (NLT).

Every day, the Holy Spirit brings opportunities for us to do good to those around us. When you feel the urge to buy someone a Coke, to help a friend with homework, or invite someone to your lunch table, that is the Holy Spirit drawing you into the good things God planned for you from the beginning of time.

We don’t do these things because we have to. We do these things because it’s what we were made to do. A game is more fun when you play it as it was designed to play. An app is most helpful when used for the purpose it was intended. And we get the most joy when we do good because it’s what God made us to do.

In a world desperate for some good, you can be the difference-maker. Jesus said that when we step into the good works God has for us, God’s goodness multiplies in the earth.

The Message paraphrases Matthew 5:16 like this: “be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.”

Your good works have the power to lead others into a relationship with God, which in turn leads to more people bringing good into the world. Your good works lead to more good works! So what are you waiting for?

Reflect:

  • What are the good works the Holy Spirit wants you to step into?

About this Plan

Getting To Know The Real You

With so many different people telling us who we are, or who we should be, how do we know who’s right? We think the One who made us should get to define us. Read this plan to discover who God says you are and find your identity in Him.
