The God Who Stays - a Ten-Day Devotional Plan From Matthew West

DAY 9 OF 10

Day 9 - The God Who Stays Faithful

My wife and I did a tour last year encouraging couples to join us for a special date night. We called the event “Getaway Night.” The idea was simple, every couple needs to be intentional about getting away with each other so that we don’t wind up wanting to get away from each other! Part of the event each night involved a question and answer time where Emily and I shared about our marriage, what’s worked, what hasn’t, the highs and lows. One night my wife gave some advice to the other wives in the crowd that meant so much to me. She said, “One of the things I try to be intentional about is never giving Matthew a reason to doubt my faithfulness to him. I don’t keep phone numbers of old boyfriends. I don’t have friendships or relationships with anyone that even comes close to being in any sort of a gray area. I want him to know that I am faithful to him.” Boy, that was wind in my sails. I felt ten feet tall as she spoke those words. My wife loves me! She’s faithful to me! She only has eyes for me! Her faithfulness to me makes me soar with confidence.

So, how much more should God’s faithfulness make us soar with confidence? None of us, despite our best efforts and intentions, can paint a picture of perfect faithfulness that even compares to the faithfulness of God. And I am so thankful for that. Remember today that God is…

Faithful in His promises. (Hebrews 10:23.)

Faithful to guard us against evil. (2 Thessalonians 3:3)

Faithful in His love. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Faithful in our temptation. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Faithful through all generations. (Psalm 119:90)

Faithful to forgive. (1 John 1:9)

Faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you. (Philippians 1:6)

As you read today’s Scripture, I encourage you to think about times in your life when you have seen God’s faithfulness on display. Give Him thanks for those times and thank Him in advance for the fact that you can face the day ahead soaring with confidence in the God who stays faithful.
