DAY 1 OF 12

Keeping Record

Our birth, death and every milestone in between is recorded by various organizations without our knowing. Dates like our enrollment days, graduation date, the day we got married, entry and exit into countries, etc. are some examples.

The Book of Numbers can be likened to the record book of the Israelites as they traveled from Egypt to the promised land. It gives us glimpses into how the Israelites moved, the route they followed, the mistakes they made, the consequences they faced. Numbers also gives us insights into the nature of God and His faithfulness to the Israelites.

In the first three chapters, we see a detailed census being taken and recorded. After the registration, God gives Moses and Aaron direction in how to organize the Israelites as they journey towards the promised land. The census also helped Moses and Aaron in assessing the group and helping to hold the leaders accountable. Even in our personal and professional life, it is a good practice to take stock and make assessments.

Now how do we translate this to our journey with Christ? Journaling our walk with the Lord helps us to take stock of our spiritual life. Writing our prayer requests can help us see when, and how, God answers them. Challenges we faced and the lessons we learnt during our daily devotions help us in our spiritual walk. My passion for writing devotions was birthed from my habit of journaling what God taught me during my quiet time every day.

In our life, it's essential to record and remember what God has done for us. These records are not to make us proud, but to be thankful for what the Lord has done. Having a record of what happens in our life is vital for being careful not to repeat our mistakes and to thank God for the ways He leads us. Records help us see our progress, or the lack of it.

Thought for the day:

Take a few moments and record what God wants you to do in this season of your life. Daily, see how you have lived by these guidelines.

Not all records are meant to be broken; some are to encourage and grow; others serve as a warning.
