I'm Optimistic

DAY 3 OF 4

THE GOSPEL > MY STRUGGLE

Remember, we’re not optimistic because of the things we see and feel, we’re optimistic because of who God is, what He says, and what He’s done. Today, let’s look at the next three reasons—straight from His Word—to be optimistic forever.

  1. My mind is filled with the peace of God.
In Romans 8:5-10, Paul illustrates how to be at peace. He says living by the flesh (doing whatever you want) is a sure way to be hostile to God and at war with life. But, living by the Holy Spirit is the path to peace with life.
  2. If God is for me, who can be against me?
Let’s answer this question: a bad day, a death in the family, sickness, not enough money, addiction, and the seemingly countless struggles that drain optimism sure seem “against me,” so what is Paul getting at? Romans 8:31-34 makes it plain. If God—who didn’t spare His only Son for your sake—is for you, then nothing and no one stands a chance against the Good News of His plans to give you hope and a future. The Gospel > my struggle.
  3. God’s Spirit helps me in my weakness.
Whose Spirit? The Spirit of the One who thought up cell structure, solar systems, and your very DNA. His Holy Spirit is available to be your friend, comforter, and present help in times of trouble. Therefore, I’m optimistic even in my weakness. Why? Because when I’m weak He is strong. And when He’s strong (always) struggle doesn’t stand a chance!

Try this: Tell someone the condensed version of your life’s story. What themes do you see? Can you see God’s plans and hope for your future?
