DC28:20—Getting Equipped: The Character Traits of a Follower of Jesus

DAY 2 OF 5

DAY TWO

Christianity starts with God’s love for us and His offer of grace to us. For those who accept His love and grace, the obvious response is to love God—and to love His people. People are to be loved because God loves people. And we know from Jesus in Matthew 22:36-38, that loving others is the second greatest commandment.

But let’s get specific: How does a godly person demonstrate and practice love for others? Read Romans 13:9-10 and Philippians 2:3-4 and note some principles for treating others with love, empathy, and compassion.

[Romans 13:9-10 NIV] 9 The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not covet," and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

[Philippians 2:3-4 NIV] 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
