[1 John Series 8] The Pull Of Materialism And Prideنموونە
Live for What Lasts
The Bible says that a rich man just fades away in his pursuits. Instead of longing to be like the rich, we should want to rise up and live for the things that last. It doesn’t matter if we are in the palace, in poverty, or somewhere in between: the Christian life is a call to eternal impact, not just personal pleasure. Your legacy is defined by what you are able to give back. The number one thing for us has nothing to do with this earth. The number one thing for us has everything to do with heaven and Jesus Christ. That is where we can find our security, our faith, and our hope.
Have you ever seen a junk yard? At one point, every one of those cars was brand new. Should you have a car? Of course. But know that you can’t live for that. It will be smashed one day. Do you know that ten years from now, you are going to laugh at yourself for what you are wearing? Live for the things that last.
God is calling us to have an interchange in our hearts of darkness for light and of lies for truth. Where are you? Take a step and let God work in your life; begin to live out God’s will for your life. It is better to be in the heart of God’s will than to be in the heart of the world’s will. Go about the things of God and live for the things that last. Then, no matter how hard it gets, you will run and not grow weary, you will walk and not faint, you will fly with wings of eagles, and you will live in God’s will.
We are surrounded by stuff. Everything is available with just a piece of plastic to be swiped. New and better houses go up every single day. May our hearts not settle into a lifestyle of ease. May we long for a city whose Architect and Builder is God.
Father, may our hearts beat for You, so that when You bless us, we share the blessing and give You the glory. May we be givers and live for the things that last. May we be humble and not prideful. Every one of us is rich compared to the rest of the world, even when we don’t feel like it. Let us long for more of You.
