Salty and Shiny - A Study of the Beatitudes

DAY 4 OF 10

Blessed Are The Meek Not Weak

The meek or the humble are those who have authority or stature but are fully submitted to God’s will for their life, so they don’t have to exert or display that authority. Jesus was the prime example for meekness for he endured being physically and verbally abused, taunted and bullied, name-called and ignored when He could have summoned legions of angels to his aid with one word. Jesus says the meek will inherit the earth which sounds outlandish in today’s world where it seems like it’s the go-getters and the over-ambitious who inherit most of what’s around. The classical Greek word for meekness is “praus” which is the same word used to describe war-horses. These horses were born and bred for military purposes and so were always battle-ready and very powerful. In addition to this raw strength, they were highly trained and extremely obedient. So loosely translated, meekness is “power under control”.

Each of us who know the Lord Jesus as our Savior has the resurrection power of Christ in us, but we must also be completely obedient to Him in order to be truly meek. It’s in this state of knowing who we belong to and who we are in Christ that gives us the ability to be confidently meek and trust the outcome to God. The meek are not weak; they are rich for their Father gives them the earth as their inheritance.

About this Plan

Salty and Shiny - A Study of the Beatitudes

The Christian journey is one of varied experiences. Irrespective of the season of life we are in, we must be able to leave a mark on those around us so that they experience Jesus or at the very least be curious about what’s different in us. Our prayer is that you will effortlessly bring out the God flavors and colors in every season you find yourself in.
