Values of an Entrepreneur

DAY 3 OF 4

Work

When it comes to defining personal values that flow into our business, it’s easy to miss the most important one. This is especially true if you’re looking to the Bible to inform your values. Christ spent a lot of His time on earth teaching soft skills—love, kindness, forgiveness, etc. But that doesn’t mean He ignored work.

See, we often read passages like this one from Colossians and see the first half of it. Be peaceful. Be thankful. Sing with gratitude. Those are all great things, but it doesn’t stop there. God doesn’t want to be confined to one part of our lives. He’s not asking us to worship Him from 9-12 on Sunday mornings before sending us out to do whatever we want during the week.

God belongs in our entrepreneurial journey.

And that’s why work—specifically, diligent and faithful work—is our third most important value. Don’t leave God in the church-sized box you’ve created for Him on Sundays. He should be in every meeting, phone call, pitch, and presentation you have during the day. What’s more, those things should be done in a way that honors Him.

In addition to honoring God by showing peace, gratitude, and thankfulness, we can also honor him in our diligence, perseverance, and faithfulness.

As Faith Driven Entrepreneurs, we don’t get to be our own boss. We have a higher calling—a higher authority to whom we report. If we have to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, then it’s best we do those things well.

Further Thought

  • Why is it easy to section off work as a part of our lives that God doesn’t care about or isn’t involved in?
  • How would your day to day look different if you acted as though every task you accomplished you did for God? Would your life look differently if God was your boss?
