Day 9: The First Christmas
Tenth Avenue North - “The First Christmas (feat. Zach Williams)”
Close your eyes for a few seconds and imagine yourself at the first Christmas. You might have been invited if you were around then!
Tenth Avenue North wrote the song “The First Christmas” for people to imagine actually being there. The lyrics say, “No tinsel, no tree, no lights, no presents, no snow… but we finally got what we need.”
As Christmas comes closer, what if we remember what we really, actually need and dedicate more of ourselves to those things? What if we spend more time creating experiences with our loved ones instead of making sure we get the best gift for them? What if we spend more time reflecting on our year and being in a space of gratitude than thinking of what we didn’t get under the tree or how we ate too much at Christmas dinner? What if we spend more time helping those around us instead of working to make our own lives more comfortable? We got what we really need at the first Christmas and that’s worth celebrating and honoring by filling our lives with the things Jesus taught us as truly important:
Loving God.
Loving our neighbors.
Giving to others.
May your Christmas be filled with what you really need!
Tomorrow, a New Year's Eve devo written by Tauren Wells!
