Daily Bible Reading — Sustained by God’s Word of Joy

DAY 31 OF 31

December 31

Introduction

John’s vision is a reminder that Jesus will come again and bless those who are faithful. They will eat the fruit from the tree of life and enter the holy city. The faithful are to continue doing good and being holy.

Today’s Scripture: Revelation 22:12

“Listen!” says Jesus. “I am coming soon! I will bring my rewards with me, to give to each one according to what he has done.”

Today’s Reading

Revelation 22:1-21

Reflect

John’s vision of the new creation includes a river of life-giving water and the tree of life (verses 1, 2, 14). The tree of life first appeared at the time of creation and the beginning of human history (Genesis 3:22). What is the significance of the tree of life in the midst of the new Jerusalem? Jesus’s final words are, “Yes indeed! I am coming soon!” (verse 20). These words are also spoken in verses 7 and 12 and in Revelation 3:11. What does Jesus’s promise mean to you and how does it affect the way you live your life now?

Pray

Come, Lord Jesus! Lead me in your ways and prepare me to receive you in love. Lord of life, fill me with the faith and hope that brings true joy. Come, Lord Jesus! Amen.

Prayer Concern

Peace and harmony throughout the world
