Deep Rest

Hebrews 4:9, 11, 12
“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work…make every effort to enter that rest…For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit…”

Entering God’s rest requires the surrender of our will and the faith that God is now guiding our lives. It also requires that we rest from our own work, even well intentioned religious work, and fix our eyes on Jesus. In humility and worship we must lay down, not only our sin, but our stubborn self-will, and choose to listen to God’s word. The Spirit of God will lead and direct the lives of those he calls. His word convicts, sanctifies and encourages us to live closely to Jesus. Our life becomes simply to hear and obey. We cease striving for man’s approval and become delighted with the Father’s approval and his rest.

Father God, you are my rest. I find my contentment and peace in you. I surrender to your word and voice, it is life to me.
