Acts - Chapter One

DAY 1 OF 5

Knowing Christ through His Word

…I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach …Acts 1:1

An orientation or some form of training is necessary before anyone can head out on a mission. The apostles had been with Jesus and knew his teaching and had an experiential understanding of his power for over three years.

Notice these phrases in

Acts 1:1 ‘all that Jesus began to do and teach’,

Acts 1:2 ‘giving instructions through the Holy Spirit’ .

Acts1:3 ‘spoke about the kingdom’

Acts1:4 ‘he gave them a command’

Jesus taught, he gave instructions, he spoke, and he commanded. In other words, he gave them content.

God certainly used sincere and simple people but that does not mean he sent them without adequate insight. Christ spent most of his time interacting and teaching his disciples rather than merely ministering to the crowds. The disciples were his primary focus. When the disciples were slow to grasp the significance of his death and resurrection, he did not merely stun or dazzle them with supernatural experiences, but he patiently gave them the needed content.

‘… beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.’….He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” Luke 24:27, 44

Books of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms is basically, all of scripture. Supernatural experiences cannot take place in isolation. An adherence to all of scripture is important. Let the word of God dwell in us richly so that we’ll convey the truth with confidence and conviction.
