Running From The Heart

DAY 25 OF 31

A Voice for the Voiceless

The Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom to the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. (Isaiah 61:1)

Rebecca wrote an article for a Christian magazine,

“It is our job to get as close to Jesus as possible... love the Lord your God with all your heart...so His Holy Spirit can work through
us to reveal Jesus to others. We are Christ’s beacons or ambassadors for the lost and hurting souls in this broken world. We are His eyes, ears, feet and voice.”

Rebecca’s heart for the hurting carries on through her journals,

“I want to be a friend and a voice for the voiceless–slaves, prisoners, the poor, the unborn children, widows and orphans... I saw a circle of compassion and no-one was standing on the outside... we are to stand with those who hurt... we belong to one another.”

The seeds of compassion were sown in Rebecca’s heart when, as a young girl, she helped care for people in need with her parents in central London. On one occasion, she was moved to tears when she saw a photo of young girls who were held captive in a cage. She never forgot them and, as an adult, she joined the fight to stop human trafficking.

She also sponsored a young child, raised money for international justice, visited the poor and organized mission trips around the world to share the good news of Jesus Christ.

Selah

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me... Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. (Matthew 25:35-36 and 40)

What breaks your heart? Does it ache for things that break God’s heart?

Passing the Baton:

Be a voice for the voiceless and be Jesus’ hands and feet to the poor and suffering.

Prayer:

Oh God! Please break my heart with the things that break your heart and give me the wisdom to know what to do and the courage to carry it through with loving kindness and truth. Amen
