GERMY GERMS!
Spit. Tears. Skin. Mucus (also known as snot). Even special blood cells. They all work together as part of your immune system to fight off germs.
Germs are tiny little organisms—yes, they’re alive! They’re so small you need a microscope to see them. Germs constantly attack your body, trying to sneak in through your eyes and nose, cuts and scrapes, and in lots of other ways. Your immune system works hard to fight them off. And if a germ does make you sick, your immune system keeps battling to heal your body.
When Jesus was living here on Earth, He did a lot of healing. People with sicknesses of every kind came to Him. One day, four friends tried to carry a paralyzed man to Jesus. But there were so many people gathered in the house where Jesus was that they couldn’t even get inside. Instead of giving up, they climbed up on the roof, cut a hole, and lowered their friend down—right in front of Jesus! (Read about it in Luke 5:17–26.) Jesus did heal that man, but first, He did something even more important. He said, “Your sins are forgiven.” Why? Because the sickness of sin—all the wrong things we’ve done—is much more serious than any sickness of the body. Our bodies can only be sick here on Earth, but our souls can be sick with sin for all eternity. Jesus came to heal us of our sins. So if you realize you’ve sinned, be like that man and his friends— don’t let anything stop you from getting to Jesus. Stop right where you are and ask Him to forgive you. He will. Every single time (1 John 1:9).
How Great!
Allergies happen when your immune system gets confused. Sometimes it thinks “harmless” things, like cat hair, peanut butter, eggs, or even blooming flowers are germs, and it starts to fight them. That’s when your eyes itch or your nose starts running. Fortunately, doctors have figured out ways to tell the immune system to chill out!
Prayer
Lord, thank You for all the ways You keep my body healthy and strong. But most of all, thank You for healing me of the sickness of sin.
