Who Is God?

DAY 14 OF 14

God’s Love

God loves. This should not be minimised. God has no necessity or compulsion to love us. We have seen previously that he is completely independent – not needing to love humans to complete or improve who he is. But God loves freely.

Romans tells us that God shows his love by the death of Christ for us. And he did this not when we loved him – but when we were sinners, when we were his enemies. And God shows his love not only through Jesus’ death and our forgiveness but also through calling us his children (1 Jn 3:1).

God continues to show love to humanity – even his enemies – by sustaining them in this world. He causes the sun to rise and the rain to fall for all people.

As children of our loving Father we are called to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us.

Who do I find hard to love? How can I show love to them this week? Pray for them.

Prayer:
Lord, thank you that you are my loving Father and that you call me your child. Thank you that you love me freely through I don’t deserve it. Help me to love _____________ this week. Please bring them to know you as their saviour/ help them to delight in knowing you this week. Amen.
